Introduction
In this article, we will explore the concept of cultural competency. We will discuss the importance of being culturally competent in public health and how it affects your work as a public health professional. We will also look at what makes up a person’s culture and discuss how to become more culturally competent when working with people from diverse backgrounds.
Differences in Health Status and Health Care Access
There are a number of ways that health care access can differ across cultures. For example, some people may be more likely to have insurance coverage for prescription drugs and other medical services. In addition, there is a lack of awareness about how illnesses like diabetes or high blood pressure should be treated and managed in different cultures.
There are also differences in the rates at which individuals seek treatment for certain conditions as well as their willingness to seek help from doctors when they need it most (e.g., during an emergency). This means that public health professionals must be culturally competent in order to provide timely medical care while respecting cultural norms and beliefs about self-care behaviors such as dieting habits or exercise routines among others
