Scholarly Activities – RN-to-BSN Program

Introduction

The RN-to-BSN program is a bridge between the nursing field and the BSN program. It prepares students to transition from all levels of nursing practice into post-secondary education. Students may enroll in this program after completing an associate degree, or if they have already earned their diploma in another field and want to become a certified nurse assistant, clinical nurse specialist (CNS), or nurse practitioner (NP).

Distinguish between clinical scholarship and research.

Clinical scholarship is the integration of research, teaching and practice in clinical settings. Research is the foundation for clinical scholarship. Clinical scholars integrate their knowledge generation with dissemination so that it can be used by healthcare professionals who are involved in patient care or policymaking.

The process begins with an initial look at current literature related to your area of interest (i.e., nursing), then continues through exploration of how this literature applies to nursing practice today—and how you might add value through your own research as a student at UMass Lowell!

Evaluate management of knowledge in nursing practice.

Nursing practice is based on scientific knowledge, clinical expertise and the application of scientific knowledge to promote health and well-being. As a nursing student you will be expected to evaluate management of knowledge in nursing practice. This includes:

  • Understanding how evidence-based practice can be used in your daily work as a nurse

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of health care interventions based on research findings

  • Identifying gaps in current knowledge among nurses who are working with clients or patients

Analyze trends to maintain professional practice standards.

You will analyze trends to maintain professional practice standards.

You will understand how to integrate new knowledge into practice.

You will identify and analyze empirical studies that pertain specifically to your specialty area, thereby providing you with the opportunity for further learning or teaching opportunities.

Takeaway:

The takeaway from this article should be that you can do anything you want with your life. To put it another way, the takeaway is: “You are capable of doing anything! You only need to believe in yourself and work hard enough to achieve your goals.”

The takeaway also gives me hope for my future career choice as an RN-to-BSN student because I know that if I work hard enough and dedicate my time towards becoming a better nurse, then one day I’ll have options open up for myself outside of nursing like being a doctor or scientist/engineer etc.. It may sound silly but having these options available makes me feel less worried about what’s going on around me now because there might still be time left before something comes along unexpectedly which could lead into something great happening unexpectedly!

Conclusion

I hope this post has helped you to understand some of the nuances of scholarly activities in nursing and how they relate to your career goals. If you’re looking for more information about scholarship, feel free to reach out!
