Research and evedience based practice

We have been reading in Lobiondo-Wood and Haber about qualitative and quantitative research studies and the appraisal of research studies. Place yourself in this situation and answer the following questions:

The nurse only has 10 minutes to go to the hospital library to “look up” something. When he/she gets there, he/she quickly thumbs through a couple of journals. If this were you, what three sections of the article would you appraise first? Describe at least two pros and two cons related to this strategy.

Research and evedience based practice

Introduction

In this article, we will talk about the need to research and experiment with a variety of methods when trying to answer questions. We will also show that it is possible to develop good theories through practice with observations and data collection, rather than just relying on intuition or experience.

Literature research

A literature review is a process of collecting, analyzing and synthesizing information from relevant sources. It is a key component of the research process that helps to:

  • identify gaps in knowledge

  • establish a foundation for further study and research

  • evaluate existing knowledge about your topic.

Hypothesis for more general questions

A hypothesis is a testable prediction. It’s an educated guess we make about what will happen when we conduct an experiment.

It can be stated as a null or alternative hypothesis, depending on the nature of your research question and whether you’re interested in testing for significance or just looking at trends across groups (for example). A null hypothesis would be something like “There will be no difference between groups X and Y.” An alternative hypothesis might be that “Group X will have higher scores than Group Y.”

When it comes to hypothesis testing, there are two kinds of statistical significance: -Statistical significance at the p < 0.05 level (or 95% confidence level) means that there is only a 5% chance that your results occurred by chance. This is the most common type of statistical significance and what we use in experimental research. -Statistical significance at the p < 0.01 level (or 99% confidence level) means that there is only a 1% chance that your results occurred by chance. This test is typically used for clinical trials when researchers want to be very sure about their findings before moving forward with an intervention or treatment plan

Theory development to improve theoretical understanding of the phenomenon

Theory development is a process of developing a theory to explain a phenomenon. When used in education, theory development can be used to improve understanding of the phenomenon in general or it can be used to improve understanding of the phenomenon in specific contexts.

Theory development is important because it can provide a lens through which we can view the world and interpret our experiences. Theories provide us with a framework for understanding what we experience and why things happen.

To find resources that can be used in practice

In order to find resources that can be used in practice, you need to have a good understanding of what you are looking for and how to find it. There are many different types of resources that can be used in research and evidence-based practice including:

  • books

  • journals/journals articles

  • websites/website articles

To find the right kind of material, you need to know what your topic is – this will help narrow down the search results and make them more relevant.

Conclusion

The next step is to create a tool that can be used by teachers to test their hypotheses and receive feedback on the validity of their theory. In order to do this, we need some research data that can be used as evidence for our hypothesis. This data should come from a variety of sources such as surveys, interviews or focus groups conducted with students who are currently taking lessons based on mindfulness techniques such as meditation
