As a health information systems (HIS) project manager, you are part of a

work group tasked with researching electronic health records (EHRs) to make

recommendations for the chief information officer (CIO) to review. The process of

creating this recommendation presentation will provide you the opportunity

to analyze security risks and privacy safeguards related to health care

technology and consider the integration of a new software tool.

Preparation

Narrow down your research to 2 or 3 specific EHRs to research and present to

the CIO at the staff meeting.

Develop a 10- to 15-slide narrated Microsoft ®  PowerPoint ®  presentation that

includes the information the CIO requested.  

Compare your two or three chosen EHRs by addressing the following: 

o Overview of each EHR

o Major components of each EHR

o Benefits and drawbacks of each EHR

o HIPAA and privacy and security risks of the EHRs

o HIPAA rules

o Potential privacy risks

o Security safeguards available

o Strategies for evaluating the effectiveness of the EHR

Include visuals (e.g., charts, graphs, pictures) to assist your message and the

aesthetics of your presentation. 

 

Cite at least 2 peer-reviewed sources to support your presentation; format

according to APA guidelines.
