Compare GCU Mission and Domains/CON Mission and Program Competencies
Introduction
The Church of Christ University (GCU) has a mission to educate the body of Christ through Christian-based academic programs and services. While the university’s overall goal is to prepare students for life in God’s Kingdom, it also seeks to provide a worldview based on Christian values that will serve as an example for all believers.
Mission and Domains
Mission and Domains are the same.
Both GCU’s mission and its domains are “to support students’ educational development through a comprehensive Christian worldview.” Both programs focus on preparing students for academic success through rigorous coursework in liberal arts, sciences, and Bible studies; helping them develop skills for life after college; and instilling biblical values that will empower them to make positive choices throughout their lives.
Mission & Domains: Same Purpose with Different Methods
Core Values
Our core values are the beliefs and principles that guide our decisions, actions, and choices. They are the foundation of our mission, culture, and programs.
The following is a list of some of our most important values:
-
We value God over everything else in life. We believe that He has given us a purpose beyond ourselves through Christ—to help others find Him through His Word (1 Timothy 2:5). We want to serve Him by helping others grow closer to Him so they can live more fulfilling lives as followers of Christ (Matthew 28:18–20).
-
We value people over things or ideas—a healthy dose of humility is required here! People matter more than anything else because each one has unique gifts from God; it’s up to us how we use those gifts for His glory (Ephesians 4:11–12).
Mission of the Church
The mission of the university is to provide a Christ-centered education in an environment that promotes Christian values and encourages students to serve God and their fellow man.
Overall Goal (1)
The overall goal of GCU is to be a Christian university that is committed to the pursuit of truth, the development of character and the transformation of society.

Overall Goal (2)

In order to achieve this vision, we must understand the difference between our domains/programs’ competencies vs. our CONs’ competencies:
Intellectual Competencies
Intellectual Competencies
-
Anticipation/Planning: The ability to anticipate problems and plan for their resolution.
-
Initiation/Initiative: The ability to initiate work and make decisions based on data analysis and judgment.
-
Organization Management and Administration: The ability to manage human resources effectively while maintaining a clear focus on mission objectives.
Anticipation/Planning
Anticipation/Planning
Anticipation is the ability to predict future events. It involves anticipating potential problems, making plans for how to deal with them, and then carrying out those plans. Planning is the ability to develop a plan or strategy for achieving a goal. A key part of planning involves identifying what needs to be done in order to achieve your goals—and then figuring out how you’re going to do it! If you want your organization or team members (or yourself) to have success at work because they have good anticipation/planning skills, then make sure that everyone knows what their responsibilities are and has some idea about when deadlines will arrive so that everyone can prepare accordingly
Initiation/Initiative
The first step in any mission is to initiate. This is the most important part of your organization’s initiation process, because it will be the foundation of your success and growth. As you begin to build relationships with others, you need to show them that you are ready for them and willing to invest themselves in their success as well. These initial interactions are often times where leaders make their biggest mistakes: they fail at building relationships or fail at initiating new ideas into actionable plans.
When it comes time for someone else (elderly) or yourself (younger) within an organization who has been promoted into leadership roles from within a field/domain/position; this type of person needs guidance from those above him/herself so he/she knows how best utilize his strengths while also supporting those below him/herself when needed
Organizational Management and Administration
Organizational Management and Administration
The ability to manage and administer an organization. The individual must be able to plan, organize, coordinate, direct and control all organizational functions; establish policies and procedures; budget expenditures; finance operations, maintain records of all financial transactions that are approved by upper management, work with others in the organization (e.g., coworkers) on planning projects required for successful completion of assigned tasks or responsibilities within the scope of their job description/responsibilities at GCU academically-based programs offered through MCCD’s Office Of Distance Learning Services (ODLS).
Takeaway:
The takeaway is that GCU Mission and Domains/CON Mission and Program Competencies are similar in many ways, but there are also some important differences.
In order to fully understand what each school offers, it’s important to get a clear understanding of their mission statements, which describe their core values as well as the purposes for which they exist.
Conclusion
If you’ve been paying attention to all of this and are still confused, I understand. Your first instinct might be to assume that the quality of your experiences at GCU is a result of the school’s mission or its core values. But really, it’s something much deeper than that: it’s about how we think things through and make them happen. If you want to take your learning experience to another level, then focus on developing some of these competencies within yourself:
