When applying for a job or trying to get into a career, your first and sometimes only impression will be your cover letter and resume.

Objective: The purpose of this assignment is to enhance your cover letter and resume writing skills, identify transferable skills, and understand the importance of tailoring cover letters and resumes to specific job opportunities. The goal of this activity is to help students practice writing a targeted cover letter and resume for a specific job using a provided job description. If using your own job descriptions, please include them.

Directions: Locate a job description for a job you are interested in applying for OR use the provided job description and write a cover letter. A template has been provided to guide the process.

Step 1: Job Description Review:

· Read and analyze a job description that you have located or one of the provided job descriptions carefully.

· Highlight key responsibilities, required qualifications, and specific information about the organization.

· Take notes on any relevant details.

Step 2: Identify Transferable Skills:

· Based on your experiences as an undergraduate psychology major, identify transferable skills that are applicable to the job described in the job description. Examples of transferable skills may include data collection, statistical analysis, attention to detail, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Step 3: Cover Letter Writing:

· Draft a personalized cover letter for the job described.

· Use the provided Cover Letter Template as a guideline.

Step 4: Resume Writing:

· Draft a personalized resume for the job described.

· Include your identified transferable skills.

· Include any experience with key responsibilities, required qualifications, and specific information from the job description.
