ADDITIONAL INFORMATION;
Bowenian, Structural, and Strategic Family Systems Theories
Introduction
Family systems therapy is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on the relationship between family members. Family systems theory suggests that there are three stages in the life cycle of an individual: infancy, childhood, and adulthood. Each stage has unique challenges and goals that shape how a person handles relationships with his or her family members.
Bowenian Family System Theory
Bowenian theory is a family system theory. It was developed by Murray Bowen in the 1960s, and it has since been applied to many different types of families, including those with children who have mental illness or other disorders. In Bowenian theory, it is assumed that each family member has a significant impact on the rest of the family system; this means that if one person’s behavior changes (for example, if you start paying attention to your older son again), then this can have an effect on everyone else in your household.
Bowenian therapy focuses on helping individuals develop independence and autonomy while also reducing anxiety levels within their relationships with others within their families’ systems and ultimately improving overall quality of life for everyone involved!
Bowenian theory is based on three main premises: -The first premise of Bowenian theory is that human beings are inherently social creatures who need to be connected with other people in order to feel good about themselves. This means that if you’re feeling depressed or anxious, it’s not enough to simply take medication and feel better; instead, you need to work on repairing the relationship problems that led you into depression in the first place.
Structural Family Therapy Theory
Structural Family Therapy Theory is a theory of family systems that was developed by George Vaillant. This theory focuses on the roles and responsibilities of every family member in the total dynamic of each family system, as well as their interactions with other individuals and groups within their environment.
The first step toward understanding how we can use our knowledge about families to make change is to identify predictable patterns of interaction between family members. These predictable patterns include:
-
Who interacts most often?
-
What are they doing when they interact?
-
Why do these interactions occur so frequently?
What are the consequences of these interactions?
Strategic Family Therapy Theory
Strategic family therapy is a branch of family therapy that focuses on helping families to change their interactions to improve the family’s functioning. The theory behind strategic family therapy is based on the assumption that each family member has his or her own agenda, and this agenda may be in conflict with the rest of the family. Thus, therapists believe that they should take an active role in helping families shift their interactions so as to better meet each individual’s needs.
The goal of strategic family therapy is to help families improve their functioning by changing how they interact. The therapist does this by identifying and addressing problems within the family system.
These are theories about how to approach the dynamics of family systems
These are theories about how to approach the dynamics of family systems. They have practical applications in the world today, and they can be used to help individuals, families and couples.
Structural family therapy theory: Structural family therapists believe that each person has their own unique way of being with others in a relationship. This means that each person has their own way of communicating with others on an emotional level as well as a physical level (i.e., hugging). Structural therapists also recognize that relationships cannot be forced into one form or another; rather they must evolve naturally over time through trial-and-error processes until what works best for both parties is found through communication between them both
. Structural family therapists believe that if family members are not all on the same page about what is happening, it will be difficult for them to reach their goals and create change within the system.
Conclusion
We hope you enjoyed learning about these theories and how they can help you work with families.
