ANA and the Kaiser Family Foundation

Introduction

The Kaiser Family Foundation has released a report on the mental health of nursing caregivers during COVID-19. This pandemic has been declared by the CDC and WHO, and it’s still ongoing. A survey was sent out to clinical staff at hospitals across the country in order to find out how they were coping with this pandemic. The results showed that over half of respondents had experienced high levels of anxiety or depression as a result of their work during this time period.

Kaiser Family Foundation Releases Survey on Mental and Emotional Health During COVID-19 Pandemic

The Kaiser Family Foundation has released a survey on mental and emotional health during COVID-19, which was conducted between October 7th and 12th.

This study found that:

  • 73% of respondents said that they were feeling less stressed than before the pandemic began;

  • 57% reported feeling more optimistic about their future;

  • 55% said they were more engaged at work or school due to COVID-19.

COVID-19 Information

The CDC says that the COVID-19 virus is spread through the air, so it’s important to be careful when you’re around people or animals who are sick. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes. These symptoms usually start 2-4 days after exposure to the virus. They can last for up to 10 days before going away on their own (or until you get better).

Symptoms of COVID-19 aren’t serious—they only make your body feel a little bit different than normal but don’t cause any permanent damage to your health or life expectancy!

Depression, Anxiety and the Coronavirus Pandemic in Nursing

For many people, the onset of a pandemic will bring on some of their worst fears. Anxiety and depression can be symptoms of anxiety or depression, but they may also be symptoms of what you are experiencing during a pandemic. If you have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, it’s important to understand that there are treatments available for managing your condition – including medication and psychotherapy – which can help reduce symptoms like panic attacks or generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).

If you suspect that you might be experiencing these feelings as part of your response to the virus, talk with your doctor about other ways in which he or she might be able to treat them so that they don’t interfere with treatment or recovery from illness itself.
