Undergraduate Course Syllabus ACC 315: Accounting Systems Applications Center:

Online Course Prerequisites CE: ACC202 and IT100; UC: ACC202 or ACC205 and IT100 Course Description

This course introduces the student to various commercial accounting software application programs. The student will have hands-on experience with actual computer preparation of accounting transactions using accounting software in general ledger, financial statement preparation, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cost control and allocation and budgeting. It is assumed that students have a basic working knowledge of personal computers. Programming knowledge is not necessary. Course Outcomes

 How accounting information systems function in today’s business environment in small, medium, and large enterprises

 Key elements of typical business processes and their associated transactions in a computerized accounting environment

 Internal controls and sources of internal control guidance as related to accounting systems, and how to document system related internal controls

 Common features found in accounting application software (vendor and customer management, general ledger, financial statement preparation, payments and cash receipts, etc…)

 Critical elements of databases used in many computerized accounting systems  Accounting related features in and uses of Microsoft® Office Excel® 2007 software
