Introduction

Gender inequality is a complex issue, and it’s important to not oversimplify the causes and effects. There are many theories that explain how gender inequality develops and persists over time, but how do you know which one is right for your research? In this post we’ll compare some of the most popular theories in order to determine which one might be most useful for your project!

Functionalism

Functionalism is a theory that explains the relationships between society and its parts. It focuses on how parts of society work together to maintain social order and stability. Functionalism argues that society is like a machine and each part has a specific function that helps keep the machine running smoothly.

Conflict Theory

Conflict Theory

Conflict theory is a social scientific approach that focuses on the multiple causes of inequality. It argues that inequality is caused by different groups competing for resources and power, which leads to conflict. This can include economic competition, political struggle, cultural competition and racial/ethnic tension. The main assumption behind this theory is that there are two sets of interests: one group (the dominant group) gets all the benefits while another group (the subordinate group) suffers from lack of access or control over resources.[1] In other words: if you’re not part-of-the-club then you’ll never get in!

This means gender inequality can be understood using conflict theory because men have historically been dominant in many societies around the world including North America Canada & Australia; whereas women have often been subordinate due to their role as wives & mothers etcetera…

Symbolic Interactionism

The theory of gender inequality was developed by Friederike Moteldorfer. She believed that gender roles are learned through social interaction and that they are not innate to individuals or societies. Gender inequality is a result of the way society is structured, with men having more power than women and with men being encouraged to act in certain ways while women are discouraged from doing so. For example, if you were told that your mother always cooked dinner for everyone but you were never invited into her kitchen, this would impact how much time you spend cooking dinner yourself because it would make it seem like an activity only for boys (“boys” being synonymous with men).

Conclusion

There is a lot of information out there about gender inequality, and it can be difficult to know what to believe. The Functionalist school of thought believes that women are treated unequally because men have power over them. This theory supports the idea that women are being treated unfairly by society as a whole, which is why they need protection from certain laws or policies. However, some people don’t agree with this idea because they think women need more opportunities than men do in order for them not feel oppressed by their lives or unfair treatment from others (e.g., coworkers). The Conflict Theory suggests that discrimination against women comes from their gender roles within society; this means we may still expect them to act differently than men even though they want equality with everyone else too! Another way people interpret these differences between genders is through Symbolic Interactionism; it says if we look at our actions carefully enough then we can see how much power different groups have over each other without realizing it at first glance!
