Spirituality Personal Worldview Paper
Spirituality Personal Worldview Paper
Write an 800-1,000 word essay on your personal worldview. Briefly discuss the various possible meanings of the term “spirituality,” and your understanding of the concepts of pluralism, scientism, and postmodernism. Primarily, address the following seven basic worldview questions:
- What is prime reality?
- What is the nature of the world around you?
- What is a human being?
- What happens to a person at death?
- Why is it possible to know anything at all?
- How do people know what is right or wrong?
- What is the meaning of human history?
Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.
You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.
Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.

Understanding the concepts of pluralism, scientism, and postmodernism
Introduction
If you’ve ever wondered why some cultures are more accepting of homosexuality and others aren’t, it’s because of the concept of pluralism. The idea behind this theory is that people in different cultures value different things, which leads to different beliefs about homosexuality. When a culture values something as important as being gay or lesbian, then that group of people will have more acceptance for homosexuals than those who do not value that lifestyle or belief system enough to accept them completely.
Pluralism
Pluralism is the idea that there are many truths, and they cannot all be right or wrong. It’s also the opposite of dogmatism, which is when one belief system holds sway over everyone else. Pluralism allows us to see things from different perspectives, but it can lead to problems because we don’t always know what perspective should be valued more than others. For example, if you believe in an afterlife but your friends don’t (and vice versa), then your beliefs may not be valid for them—which means that pluralists could end up fighting each other over which worldviews are correct!
The world is complex enough as it is without having to worry about how everyone else sees things too…
Scientism
Scientism, or the belief that science is the only way to know, can lead to a lack of appreciation for other ways of knowing. The danger here is that it might cause people to believe that science has all the answers and cannot be wrong. This can lead them down a path where they do not even consider other ways of knowing as valid forms of knowing.
The concept of scientism was coined by Thomas Henry Huxley in his essay “On Science” published in 1871: “It is not merely unphilosophical; it would be simply stupid not to believe in this kind of progress.”
Postmodernism
Postmodernism is an attitude that rejects the Enlightenment ideals of science, reason and progress. It is characterized by a rejection of objective truth, meaning and knowledge as well as an epistemology which denies the ability to know anything beyond what can be proven by experience.
Postmodernism was born out of reaction against modernism: it took a stand against both rational thought (as represented by scientism) and relativism (the idea that all views are equally valid). Postmodernists argue that there is no such thing as objective truth because our perceptions are shaped by social factors such as race or gender; each individual’s experience differs from another person’s according to their location in society or class status – so if we’re talking about artworks then every artist will necessarily create something different from another artist due to differences in upbringing or life experiences between them both!
Takeaway:
When you understand the differences between pluralism, scientism and postmodernism, it becomes clear that each of these three ways of understanding the world has its benefits and limitations. Pluralists agree with scientists that there are multiple ways to explain phenomena in our world; however, they also believe that science is an incomplete way of understanding our surroundings because it does not account for other ways of knowing or perceiving reality. Scientists believe that science provides us with all we need to know about how things work in this world; however, they also hold the belief that if something can’t be explained by science then there isn’t any way it could be true! Postmodernists take both views into account when looking at what makes up our world: while acknowledging their strengths as well as their weaknesses (such as being unable to predict future events), they seek out new ways of viewing things through an open-minded lens rather than sticking rigidly within narrow frameworks based solely on traditional modes of thought like those held by either traditionalists or relativists (i).
Conclusion
I hope that this post was helpful to you in understanding the concepts of pluralism, scientism and postmodernism. I also hope it was able to give you some insight into how these ideas can be used in everyday life as well as what they mean for a person’s beliefs.
