In this week’s media presentation, Dr. Louise Fitzpatrick shared how health and disease are global issues. She pointed out that with the mobility of today’s population, health issues experienced in one area of the world are easily brought to other areas of the world through such means as travel and immigration.  NURS 4115 week 1 Discussion -The Role of the Nurse in Global Health.They can also be brought to a nation’s doorstep through the migration of animals, insects, and birds. Consider the spread of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, avian flu, H1N1, or SARS. These diseases have quickly crossed oceans and spread to multiple countries. They are a public health concern in the United States as well as other countries.

Reflect on Dr. Mancuso’s comments in this week’s media presentation; specifically, on the role of the BSN nurse in public and global health.
Select two health problems that you will use as a basis of comparison between countries.
Identify one developed and one developing country.
Compare and contrast the health problems and countries you selected with the United States in terms of World Health Organization (WHO) outcomes. In your analysis, be sure to include information about workforce availability to deal with the country’s disease burden.
Based on your examination of the research, how well is the United States performing in terms of public health?
Think about what countries with worse outcomes could learn from countries with better outcomes.

The Role of the Nurse in Global Health

Introduction

The role of nursing in global health is evolving rapidly, with nurses playing an increasingly important part in global health. In this entry, we’ll explore the current state of global health and how nurses can play a role in improving it.

Nurse Education

Nurses are the primary source of care for people in low and middle income countries, who often lack access to other health professionals. They also play a critical role in reducing the burden of disease through prevention programs such as immunizations and mass treatment campaigns. In addition to providing direct patient care, nurses serve as advocates for patients’ rights, helping shape policies that affect their communities.

Nurses have long been recognized as key players in global health due to their dedication and commitment to making sure everyone has access to quality care regardless of socioeconomic status or location within a country; however it wasn’t until recently that we started seeing more nurses becoming interested in pursuing advanced studies abroad so they could further expand their knowledge within this field (i).

Nurse Researchers

Nurses can make a difference in global health. They are at the forefront of innovation and leadership, which is why they are often on the front lines with other patient groups like patients with diabetes or heart disease. Nurses are also leaders in research; they have been recognized as some of the best researchers in America because of their dedication to learning about how diseases affect people across cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.

Nurses are also leaders when it comes to education: many nurses work within universities or medical schools, where they teach nursing students about what it means to care for patients who may not speak English right away because they come from different countries around the world. And if you need someone who knows what makes an effective advocate for yourself or others (like when speaking up during meetings), then look no further than your local nurse!

Nurse Leaders

Nurse leaders are needed to drive change in global health. Nurses have the opportunity to influence policy and practice, research, and the provision of services.

Nurse leaders can also influence corporate social responsibility (CSR) by helping organizations deal with ethical issues related to CSR in their daily operations. As such, nurses play an important role as CSR advocates within their environments or organizations, advocating for patient safety as well as fair wages for workers who labor on behalf of others’ health needs in developing countries around the world

Transforming the Global Health System

As a nurse, you have the opportunity to be involved in the global health system. Nursing is an integral part of all aspects of global health, from providing care for patients receiving treatment at home or in hospital settings, to working with local communities and governments so that they can effectively manage their own health needs. Nurses are also instrumental in promoting healthy behaviors such as dietary changes or increased physical activity through community-based programs offered by local organizations and governments. This role can help improve overall quality of life for those living in developing countries around the world—and it’s an opportunity that many nurses feel called by!

Policy Makers and Advocates

You can play a role in shaping global health policy, advocacy and research. You can be an influential voice in the community of people working to improve global health by advocating for policies that support this work and providing information on emerging issues.

You may be interested in serving as a leader within your own organization or within another organization that shares your values. For example, if you want to serve as president of an association for nurses who are experts on global health issues, then consider becoming involved with this group’s leadership structure by volunteering for committee positions or contributing ideas through written submissions or presentations at conferences sponsored by other organizations such as The World Health Organization (WHO).

It is important for nurses to understand what role they can play in transforming the global health system and how they can use their skills as a resource for change.
