What makes us human?
Introduction
It’s a trend that’s been growing for some time. For example, researchers have discovered that chimpanzees can use tools but only in certain limited ways. It appears that language is the driving force behind our ability to innovate, construct tools, and do things like make music and dance. We also have a capacity for imagination which gives us the ability to dream up new ideas and concepts (such as what would happen if we could travel back in time). Finally, our culture sets us apart from other species; it has shaped how we interact with each other culturally as well as biologically through religion or traditions passed down through generations.
We have the ability to use language
Language is a uniquely human trait that allows us to communicate with other people and share knowledge. It gives us a sense of identity, as well as the ability to express ourselves and learn.
We can use language in many ways:
-
We can use it when we speak or write, which we do all day long.
-
We can also use it when listening—when someone is speaking, you hear their voice and all those sounds that go along with it (like “ah”). In fact, most people think about language as being about words rather than sounds—but there are actually lots more things going on! For example: * You can make up sentences with your own words by combining them into new ones; for example: * “I am hungry” becomes “I want some food now!” And then if someone asks what kind of food that was meant by saying something like “What kind of sandwich?” You could respond with “Ham & cheese” Or maybe even say something like “cheeseburger.”
We have a capacity for imagination
Imagination is the ability to create images in your mind. It’s a form of intelligence, creativity, problem solving and communication. Imagination helps us make sense of our world by giving us mental pictures of how things work or how they might change.
Imagination can be used for play as well as for creativity—for example:
-
You’re playing a board game with friends around the table at home or out on the playground; one player says “I’m going to roll the dice.” Then another player asks: “Where are we?” And then they say “At Grandma’s house.” This is an example of using imagination to communicate with others (and having fun while doing so).
We value culture above all else
Culture is important because it allows us to learn from each other. It gives us a way of storing information, such as where things are located and how they should be used. Culture also helps us create art and music, which are two important ways that we make our world more beautiful. And finally, culture allows for new ideas to be created through innovation or invention—and these inventions often change the world forever!
Language, imagination, and culture set humans apart from other species.
Language, imagination, and culture are unique human traits.
Language is a unique human trait that sets us apart from other species. It allows us to communicate with each other and make abstract thoughts visible in the world around us. For example, if you had some pasta on your plate at dinner last night, you might have thought about how much it cost or what brand it was from before washing it down with a beer or glass of wine (or maybe even both). This mental activity—the ability to think about things in words—is what makes language possible! As far as we know no other animal has this ability; however there are many animals who communicate using body language like pointing at things or making sounds without any verbal component involved either way so they still qualify as “talking animals”
Conclusion
When you think of the human race, it’s easy to assume that we share many traits. We like to play music and dance; we love books and movies; we have children who look up to us as leaders. But what if these are just superficial similarities? What if there are deeper aspects of our culture that make us unique compared with other species on Earth? In this article, we’ll explore some of those differences by exploring how language, imagination and culture set humans apart from other species.
