The ethos of scientism and postmodernism
Introduction
The ethos of scientism is a set of beliefs about knowledge and the scientific method. It is based on the premise that there is one true way to understand the world, and that this way can be discovered by using scientific methods. This view has been dominant for over 200 years, but it’s time for an alternative.
The ethos of scientism
Scientism is the belief that science is the only way to truth and knowledge. This view has been around for centuries, but it gained prominence in the mid-20th century as a result of advances in science such as quantum physics and evolution theory. The ethos of scientism (the underlying philosophy) states that only scientific knowledge can be trusted as true or valid because it has been proven through repeatable experiments.
However, there are several problems with this approach: firstly, there are many different ways to investigate something; secondly, our experiences are subjective rather than objective; thirdly and most importantly for our purposes here—there is no objective way yet known by us humans on earth which allows us all together really know anything at all about anything else besides ourselves!
The main beneficiaries of scientism are giant corporations and the state.
The main beneficiaries of scientism are giant corporations and the state.
Scientism is a political ideology that promotes the idea that scientists can solve all problems, by applying their knowledge to them. In this way, it serves corporate interests and undermines democracy.
It’s important to remember that scientism isn’t just an academic theory; it’s also part of our everyday lives, as we see its effects in politics and business practice—and ultimately affects us all on a daily basis.
Why the alternative to postmodernism is not science.
Postmodernism is not a replacement for science, but rather a change in how we understand it. In fact, postmodernism has its roots in the philosophy of science itself. It’s important to note that while postmodernists may reject the idea that there is one true way of understanding reality and knowledge, they don’t necessarily reject science as an idea or method. They still believe in scientific progress—but they also believe that there isn’t just one path towards truth or knowledge (or even different paths).
Postmodernists argue that scientific findings should be interpreted within their cultural context and taken into account when making decisions about how things work in our world today. They want us to acknowledge these factors so we can better understand what we’re doing when making decisions about our future selves and their environment—which includes everything from climate change mitigation strategies through food production methods down through consumer choices at every level imaginable!
What we need is a holistic view of reality, not scientism.
Scientism is a reductionist view of reality. It’s the idea that there is only one truth, one way to understand things, and that all other ways are wrong or incomplete. Scientism says you can’t talk about something unless it has been reduced down to a formula—but this isn’t true at all! We can talk about anything in our lives without using scientific language (and sometimes even without using words).
Scientism is also an imperialist view: it takes something from one culture and gives it back as if the original culture had never existed at all! For example, when I say “science” today we think first of modern science, but what most people mean when they say science in ancient times was magic or religion (and yes I know this sounds silly). The point is that if you want to understand someone else’s culture better then don’t just look at what they do today; look also at how they used their past knowledge before modernity came along
Conclusion
The problem with scientism is not just that it’s a bad philosophy, but that it is a lethal weapon in the hands of those who want to enslave us and destroy our lives. We can’t afford to let this ideology continue to masquerade as science. We need to learn how to think outside the box, which means we need an alternative worldview that can replace scientism as our guide for living life on Earth.
