Week 7 Assignment

Intelligent Hospital Pavilion ICU Video Analysis/Reflection

Review the Intelligent Hospital Pavilion videos in the Week 7 Presentations folder. Write a paper in which you identify and describe elements that you feel are of benefit or risk to both patients and nurses. Explain the benefits/risks and why you do or do not support this type of available technology. Your paper should be a minimum of three pages and written in APA format with at least two outside credible references.

Intelligent Hospital Pavilion ICU Video Analysis/Reflection

Introduction

We were assigned the task of designing an ICU Pavilion. Our team was made up of three 2nd year students myself, Kirsten and Abhisha. Our goal was to create a functional Hospital Pavilion with all of its programs arranged logically and in a manner that would make it easy for patients to navigate through.

The team was made up of three 2nd year students myself, Kirsten and Abhisha. The objective was to create a video analysis/reflection for the ICU unit at a hospital in the United States.

The team worked together on this project from start to finish and incorporated elements from their previous studies into their final product. We had no outside resources or guidance besides what we had learned in class and through observation on previous projects such as this one!

Our final product consisted of two parts: firstly, an interactive website where users can watch videos from different angles (we used Adobe After Effects) which allows them to see what’s going on inside the hospital without having any prior knowledge about how it works; secondly, there are quizzes so users can test themselves against each other while learning more about what happens inside ICUs at hospitals around America every day!

Our task was to repurpose the ICU space as a hospital pavilion that would house services that are required when patients are discharged from the hospital.

The ICU is a medical facility that cares for critically ill patients. The ICUs at the hospital have been set up in different areas of the building and there are separate rooms for different types of care. They also have their own dedicated nursing staff to provide care to the patients, who are usually transferred from other hospitals after being stabilized or discharged from them.

The services required when patients leave an ICU are:

  • Transferring them back home or another provider’s facility;

  • Ensuring they have access to medicine and food;

  • Providing emotional support so that they can adjust back into society as quickly as possible

We encountered many issues during this project such as finding spaces to place the different programs.

We encountered many issues during this project such as finding spaces to place the different programs.

We were not able to find spaces for all the programs and had to change our design several times.

In the end we were able to create a functional Hospital Pavilion with all of its programs arranged logically and in a manner that would make it easy for patients to navigate through.

In the end, we were able to create a functional Hospital Pavilion with all of its programs arranged logically and in a manner that would make it easy for patients to navigate through. This can be seen in the following diagram:

  • The first step was creating an overall flowchart for each program on their own page. We used this process so that it would be easy for users who may not have much experience with hospital design or technology to understand what they will find when they click on one of these pages. This also helped us ensure that each page had consistent navigation cues throughout all aspects of our project’s design process (i.e., header images).

  • Next we added links between each section within each program so that users could easily jump back-and-forth between different sections on any given page without having too much trouble finding their way around at all times during their visit here at [Hospital_Name].

The video analysis was definitely a very helpful component of this project, because I was able to see how much of our design was not functional for its users.

The video analysis was definitely a very helpful component of this project, because I was able to see how much of our design was not functional for its users. The videos also helped me identify areas that would need improvement or change.

The initial task was to create a video gallery using an Apple TV and an iPhone. We did this by creating an app that allowed us to take pictures and videos from our phones, which were then uploaded into this app on the Apple TV device (Figure 1).

Takeaway:

The takeaway from this research was that it was very helpful to see how users interacted with the space. We were able to see what worked and what didn’t work, as well as what we could improve on. We also learned that there are some design elements that are essential for a good hospital room experience but weren’t included in our space due to budget constraints or other factors.

Conclusion

In the end, our team was able to create a functional Hospital Pavilion with all of its programs arranged logically and in a manner that would make it easy for patients to navigate through. The video analysis was definitely a very helpful component of this project, because I was able to see how much of our design was not functional for its users.
