NR505 Advanced Research Methods: Evidence-Based Practice
Week 1 Discussion
Identification of Area of Interest
For this discussion, the focus is on presenting the area of interest for the evidence-based practice proposal that is required for this course.
State your area of evidence-based practice (EBP) interest consistent with your specialty track.
State your MSN program specialty track and defend how your selected area of EBP interest is consistent with your selected MSN program track.
Defend how your area of interest is of importance to the MSN program specialty track you have selected—scholarly references are required.
Identify an initial PICOT question that reflects your area of interest for the evidence-based practice proposal.

Week 2 Discussion
PICOT/PICo and Practice Questions
The focus for Week 2 is the development of a PICOT question.
Using the area of interest from Week 1, identify the following.
Create a PICOT question using the standard quantitative PICOT format.
Identify your practice question, being sure to include the following.
A questioning part such as “what is,” “what are,” “is there,” or “are there”
Population
Intervention
Comparison
Outcome
In ________(Population) what is the effect of ___________(Intervention) in comparison to ___________ (Comparison) on _____________ (Outcome).

Week 3 Discussion
Collaboration Café
Your instructor will be monitoring the Collaboration Café but not participating as this is your opportunity to give and receive feedback from your peers. The Collaboration Café is graded this week (50 points). There are no scholarly references required in this discussion format. Please see the guidelines and grading rubric below.
This week in your lesson, there was quite a bit of discussion about quantitative research. In thinking about your PICOT question for your MSN project, in your opinion and your experience with your area of interest, what value can quantitative research bring as you review the evidence to support your project?

Week 5 Discussion
Collaboration Café
Data collection in research is similar to collecting data during physical and history assessments. Share a time that you collected data on your patient and analyzed the results to develop a plan of care. How will this be similar to the data collection for your evidence-based practice project?

Week 6 Discussion
Collaboration Café
As you have learned this week in your lesson and reading, credibility of the results of your project are extremely important. In reviewing both statistical and clinical significance, which one of these do you feel is most important to your project and why?

Week 7 Discussion
Collaboration Café
Think of a time in which you encountered a challenging change process (personal or professional) and answer the following questions/prompts:
Was the change planned or unplanned?
List the elements that made this change difficulty.
Who were the people involved, and what were their attitudes toward the change?
What were some lessons learned by you during the change process?

Week 8 Discussion
Collaboration Cafe
Reflect on what you have learned in this course and give an example of how you will promote evidence-based practice in the advanced practice setting.

Advanced Research Methods: Evidence-Based Practice
Introduction
Advanced nursing practice is a growing field that offers many career opportunities for nurses. The APPN degree can help prepare you to work as an APRN, but there are also other advanced nursing fields that you may want to consider.
Are you a nurse who seeks out the most cutting-edge, evidence-based solutions for your patients
Are you a nurse who seeks out the most cutting-edge, evidence-based solutions for your patients? Do you always ask yourself, “What do other nurses do?” Or are you more of an armchair researcher and want to find out what other nurses have already done?
If so, then this article is for you. We’ll cover how to use research papers as a tool for improving practice in two ways: first by helping clinicians improve their own decision making skills through critical thinking (the second way), and second by providing them with access to relevant information that can be used in their daily work (the first).
Would you like to know how to do this research yourself?
In order to answer questions about the world around us, we use research methods. Research methods are tools used to collect and analyze data. They include surveys, interviews, observation, and experimentation. These methods are used in many different fields of study such as psychology, sociology, anthropology and economics.
For example: if you wanted to learn more about how people felt about your product or service then you could ask them questions through a questionnaire or interview them face-to-face at your local retail store where they will be able to answer specific questions related directly back towards improving customer satisfaction levels within their own business model while also allowing customers who might not want all those details available publicly so easily accessible through social media channels like Facebook where anyone could find out information shared openly without any discretion whatsoever.”
You may be interested in pursuing a career in advanced nursing practice
You may be interested in pursuing a career in advanced nursing practice. The role of advanced practice nurses (APRNs) in the healthcare system is growing, and there are many opportunities for those who enter this field.
APRNs have knowledge about how to provide quality care for patients based on their own experience and education, as well as that of other healthcare professionals. They work with other health care providers to deliver high-quality patient care that meets the needs of each individual patient. The scope of practice for APRNs includes:
-
Diagnosis and treatment planning;
-
Implementation of interventions including medications, physical therapies or surgeries;
-
Documentation related to treatment decisions made by doctors or nurses under their supervision;
There are many advanced nursing practice roles available in the fields of research and evidence-based practice.
There are many advanced nursing practice roles available in the fields of research and evidence-based practice. The roles are open to nurses who have a master’s degree, but they also require additional education that can be completed through distance learning or even on your own time. The responsibilities vary depending on where you work and what kind of nurse you want to be: some positions involve direct patient care, administrative work and education; others focus on research or data collection; still others require clinical experience before becoming eligible for promotion within an organization.
With a master’s degree, you could become an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN)
Advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) are registered nurses who work in a variety of settings. They may provide direct patient care, teach and conduct research, be involved in policy making and administration.
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing offers a master’s degree program for advanced practice nursing as well as certification programs for APRN’s at the master’s degree level or higher.
A master’s degree will also help prepare you to carry out direct patient care, administrative work and education.
While a master’s degree will help prepare you to be an advanced practice registered nurse, it’s not the only way to get there. If you are interested in pursuing administrative or policymaking roles in healthcare organizations, a master’s degree may not be sufficient. However, if your goal is simply being an APRN and providing direct patient care, then earning your master’s degree will give you the knowledge and skills needed for success as an APRN.
If you want to teach at the college level or perform basic scientific research in healthcare, go for your Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree.
If you want to teach at the college level or perform basic scientific research in healthcare, go for your Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. The DNP prepares nurses to practice at the highest level of nursing practice and enables them to be leaders in evidence-based practice. In addition, it prepares them for teaching at both baccalaureate and graduate levels.
These nurses may also pursue administrative or policymaking roles in healthcare organizations.
-
Administrative roles are available at the hospital, health system, and national level.
-
Policymaking roles are available at the state and national level.
Administrative nurses generally have a master’s degree in nursing (MSN). Administrative nurses can expect to earn about $55,000 to $70,000 per year in their first five years of employment. They may also pursue administrative or policymaking roles in healthcare organizations such as hospitals or health systems; these positions offer salary increases with experience working with higher levels of management within these organizations.
Becoming an APRN can provide nurses with a variety of career opportunities in today’s healthcare setting.
The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) defines an APRN as “an advanced practice registered nurse who has additional education and/or training beyond that required by the state to practice in his or her specialty area.” In other words, an APRN is a nurse who has completed additional education and training that allows him or her to provide nursing care in areas beyond what’s required by their state.
APRNs can work in many different settings: from direct patient care at a hospital, clinic or office setting; administrative work such as billing; teaching at colleges and universities; basic scientific research in healthcare organizations—even government agencies!
Conclusion
We hope this article has helped you understand the difference between advanced research methods and evidence-based practice. If you are interested in becoming an APRN, the first step is to find a program that fits your individual needs. We encourage you to explore all of your career options before making any decisions about what job will be best for you!
