Practicum Experience Plan (PEP)
Practicum Experience Plan (PEP)
As you establish your goals and objectives for this course you are committing to an organized plan that will frame your practicum experience in a clinical setting, including planned activities, assessment, and achievement of defined outcomes. In particular, they must address the categories of clinical reasoning, quality in your clinical specialty, and interpersonal collaborative practice.
For this Assignment, you will consider the areas you aim to focus on to gain practical experience as an advanced nurse practitioner. Then, you will develop a Practicum Experience Plan (PEP) containing the objectives you will fulfill in order to achieve your aims. In this practicum experience, when developing your goals and objectives, be sure to keep adult health guidelines and best practices in mind.
To prepare:
Review your FNP or AGPCNP Clinical Skills and Procedures Self-Assessment Form you submitted in Week 1 and think about areas for which you would like to gain application-level experience and/or continued growth as a nurse educator. How can your experiences in the Practicum help you achieve these aims?
Review the information related to developing objectives provided in this week’s Learning Resources. Your practicum learning objectives that you want to achieve during your Practicum experience must be:
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Results-focused
Time-bound
Reflective of the higher-order domains of Bloom’s taxonomy (i.e., Application level and above)
Note: please make sure your objectives are outlined in your Practicum Experience Plan (PEP).
Discuss your professional aims and your proposed Practicum Objectives with your Practicum Preceptor to ascertain if the necessary resources are available at your Practicum site.

Practicum Experience Plan (PEP)
Introduction
What is a PEP?
A Practicum Experience Plan (PEP) is a document that outlines your goals and objectives for your practicum experience. It also includes the steps you need to take during the process of completing your PEP, including how long it will take you to complete each step.
What is a PEP?
The Practicum Experience Plan (PEP) is a document that outlines the goals, objectives and outcomes of your practicum experience. It is a requirement for graduation and can be submitted during your practicum or in the semester following completion. The PEP will demonstrate your understanding of the theory you are learning in class and how it applies to real-world situations at work.
The PEP is written with an eye toward ensuring that you have an adequate understanding of what you need to do before moving forward with your practicum experience plan (e.g., what skills do I need?). This ensures that there are no gaps in knowledge between what you learn in class and how well this knowledge translates into real world scenarios once placed on assignment sites outside of academia
The PEP Assignment
The PEP assignment is a requirement of the course and will provide an opportunity to gain experience in different areas of practice. The assignment’s purpose is to allow students to develop their skills and knowledge, as well as demonstrate their ability to work under pressure.
The requirements for completing this assignment are:
-
Complete a written case study (10 pages) about one client who has been referred by another practitioner or agency. The case study should include information about your assessment process, treatment plan development and implementation, followed by followup measures taken after the initial session(s). Please include any relevant documents such as medical records or lab reports that may be helpful in understanding their illness or injury/disease. You may use any other sources available such as books, websites etc., but these must be cited appropriately with references provided within your paper at all times!
-
Complete three hours per week of clinical practicum training during second semester 2014-15 term only; no more than two units will be allowed toward completion of this course without special permission from me (Dr. Efi Fouad)
The PEP Submission and Approval Process
You can submit your PEP at any time during the semester. It’s a good idea to do this as soon as possible, so that it is received by faculty members before the end of classes each fall.
Once you have submitted your plan, it will be reviewed by your advisor and returned with feedback on what needs to be changed or improved in order for you to be approved for practicum. If there are no issues with your proposal (i.e., if they approve), then congratulations! You’re ready to apply for practicum!
If there are concerns about something within your PEP–for example, if there isn’t enough information provided or if they feel like certain skills aren’t being demonstrated well enough–then these may result in some extra work being required before going ahead with final approval/denial; this could include rewriting sections or adding additional documentation such as portfolio samples etc… Again though: make sure everything looks right before submitting anything else!
Practicum Plan Completion Checklist
-
Make sure you have a mentor.
-
Make sure your supervisor is available to assist with any questions or concerns that arise during the practicum experience.
-
Decide on a site where you’ll spend your time as an intern, and schedule it accordingly.
-
Write out an evaluation plan for yourself–including how many hours of work you’ll be doing each week and how many times per week (if at all).
This checklist will guide you as you complete your plan.
If you have completed your plan, congratulations! The next step is to check that you have included all of the required information, as well as any other information requested by your supervisor.
You should also make sure that your plan is written in the correct format and language for this course. For example, if it’s unclear who wrote the plan or whether it’s original work or an adaptation from another source (for example: from a textbook), ask yourself if this would change how much credit it gets on its own merits and whether there might be better options available for completing these tasks at this point in time due to budget constraints or other factors like student workloads which may prevent them from completing their assignments without additional help/assistance from another person/people outside of their departmental structure), then consider having someone else write up an equivalent version before sending them off into their respective offices where they’ll hopefully get busy working on something else instead of wasting time reading through useless drivel like ours!
Conclusion
We’re excited to see what you create in your PEP! The next step is to submit it. After that, we’ll review your plan and make sure it follows all the guidelines set out by U-M Policy for Practicum Experience Plans (PEPs). This process can take up to two weeks, so please be patient if it takes longer than expected. Once approved, the PEP will be added to our database where other students can download their own copy of the plan and look over any additional details they may want before submitting theirs.[/spoiler]
