Grand Nursing Theorist

Introduction

Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole are two of the most famous female nurses in history. They are also both credited with helping to improve the lives of those around them.

Florence Nightingale

Florence Nightingale was born in 1820. She became a nurse during the Crimean War, where she was instrumental in improving care for wounded soldiers. Later on in her life, she wrote Notes on Nursing: What It Is and How to Perform It (1859).

The book was a bestseller, and it became the standard text for nurses. Nightingale is considered to be the founder of modern nursing, and she founded the Nightingale School of Nursing in London.

Elizabeth Kenny

Elizabeth Kenny was a nurse from the UK who treated soldiers during World War I. She developed a new method of treating wounded soldiers that was not accepted by the medical establishment and was eventually recognized as a pioneer in her field.

Kenny was born in 1868 and studied nursing at the Royal Hospital of Edinburgh, Scotland. She went on to work as a nurse in several hospitals, including an infectious diseases hospital in London.

Mary Breckinridge

Mary Breckinridge was born in Lexington, Kentucky in 1843. She was a nurse and social reformer who founded the Frontier Nursing Service in 1905. In addition to her work as a nurse, Breckinridge also wrote several books about health care for women and children. In 1912 she became the first woman to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Kentucky (UofK).

Breckinridge was born on October 26, 1843 in Lexington, Kentucky. Her father was John Cabell Breckinridge, who served as a general during the Civil War and later as Vice President under James Buchanan (1857-61). Her mother was Mary Clay Smith, who founded the first kindergarten in Lexington and helped establish the Kentucky Women’s Prison Association.

Mary Seacole

Mary Seacole was a Jamaican nurse who served in the Crimea War. She was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1805. In 1858 she joined the British Army as an auxiliary nurse, but her experience there led her to return home and start her own business as a traveling nurse. She opened up a hospital for men with “severe cases” on board ships traveling between England and India by sea or land until she retired due to poor health four years later at age 70!

She met her husband while they were both working at the British Hotel in Panama City—a hotel where they treated many wounded soldiers during that time period (1854-1856). The couple had two children together: a son named Valentine Seacole; then five years later another son named Charles Valentine who died three months after birth due to complications caused by malaria contracted during his stay abroad!

Takeaway:

The takeaway is the main message. It should be clear and concise, memorable and easy to understand.

  • The takeaway should be clear and concise: this means that you should use short sentences, avoid unnecessary words or phrases, and make sure your ideas are expressed in a logical order that makes sense. If something is unclear then it will be difficult for someone else who reads your article (or listens to your speech) to understand what you’re trying to say.

  • The takeaway should be memorable: this means making sure that each point is relevant enough so as not only help readers remember but also encourage them do something with what they’ve learned!

Conclusion

Nursing theory is all about the ideas that nurses come up with on their own, and these are some of the most popular ones. They’ve been around for a long time and they continue to be relevant today.
