NUR 502 Week 4 Assignment 1 Nursing Theorist Identification and Rationale

Collaborative Learning Community: Grand Nursing Theorist Assignment: Nursing Theorist Identification and Rationale

Details:

This is a CLC assignment.

The purpose of this assignment is to have a clear understanding of the elements of a theory and to apply a theory to practice. The CLC group must use a grand theory or a high-level mid-range theory.

The group will create a report for a practice committee at a health care institution. The objective is to convince your peers of the value of using a specific theory to guide practice and evaluate care.

Since the text does not provide adequate information on any one theory for the purpose of this assignment, further research through nursing theory websites (general and specific), as well as theory texts specific to individual theories, will be required.

Begin the assignment by identifying a theorist and providing the rationale for the group’s selection.

Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the GCU APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

You are required to submit this assignment to Turnitin. Refer to the directions in the Student Success Center. Only Word documents can be submitted to Turnitin.

Nursing Theorist Identification and Rationale

Introduction

Nursing theory is the study of how nursing should be practiced and how it affects patient care. In its earliest days, nursing theory was based on disease, illness and care of the body. In the late 19th century, nursing began to focus more on prevention and wellness. Today’s hospitals still use many of these early models as they provide valuable guidance for nurses in terms of their approach to patient care.

Historical models of nursing focus on disease, illness and care of the body.

Nursing has a long history, and the models that have been used to describe it are based on the idea that nursing is simply another form of medical care. In fact, prior to the 1900s most nurses were trained as doctors or medical assistants. Today we still have this idea in our heads—that being a nurse means you’re qualified to treat illness and injury. But if we look at what’s happening in today’s world and how our bodies work now compared with previous generations, there are some major differences between these two approaches.

For example:

  • The biomedical model of health focuses solely on fixing broken parts; diagnoses come from lab tests alone so there’s no time for listening carefully during conversations about symptoms or taking time away from patients’ lives when they need rest after surgery (or any other procedure). Nerves may be severed from their ends during procedures but don’t get fixed until after they heal completely! This approach also doesn’t account for emotional needs like compassion towards others because those things aren’t measurable through lab tests either… right??

These models have helped to shape modern nursing practice and have proven to be invaluable in nursing education.

Nursing theorists have influenced nursing practice, education, and theory. Theorists have influenced nursing research, leadership, administration and more.

Nursing Theorists Influence Nursing Practice

Theory has been the foundation for many advances in nursing. It has enabled nurses to make important decisions on how they provide care and treat patients; it also helps them understand what their patients need so they can provide appropriate care for them as well as how best to approach various problems or situations that may arise during their work day(s) at a facility (e.g., if you are working with an elderly person who falls easily). As such, theoretical frameworks help us gain knowledge about our practice area so we can better understand patient needs before addressing them directly without causing further harm due to previous mistakes made by others before us

Traditional nursing theories are based on a biomedical model of health and are therefore focused on curing a patient’s illness.

Traditional nursing theories are based on a biomedical model of health and are therefore focused on curing a patient’s illness. This is the basis for traditional nursing theories, which focus on healing or treating disease.

The traditional philosophy of nursing has been defined by its focus on curing diseases through medical intervention and prescription drugs rather than promoting health through preventive care or rehabilitative strategies (Curtis & Morrison 2002).

Early nursing models help put modern nursing in context.

  • Nursing models have changed over time.

  • Nursing theories are based on a biomedical model of health and are therefore focused on curing a patient’s illness.

The nursing theory you’re most familiar with may be the one that goes back to Florence Nightingale, who is known as the “mother” of modern nursing because she helped define what it means to be a nurse in the early 20th century.

Conclusion

To conclude, we have discussed three historical models of nursing that have shaped contemporary nursing practice. These models are based on disease, illness and care of the body. They helped to shape modern nursing practice and have proven to be invaluable in nursing education. We have also examined how these theories can be applied today by looking at how they differ from each other in terms of their aims (i.e., cure or preventative care) and their approaches (i.e., individualized vs. holistic).
