NUR 502 Week 1 Assignment

Master’s-Prepared Nurse Interview
Details:

Refer to the “Master’s Prepared Nurse Interview Guide_student” as you prepare this assignment.

Interview a nurse who is master’s-prepared in nursing and is using this education in a present position. Preferably, select someone who is in a position similar to your chosen specialty track. The purpose of the interview is for you to gain insight into the interplay among education, career path, and opportunities. Be certain to identify specific competencies that the MSN-prepared nurse gained, and is presently using, that reflect advanced education. Organize your interview around the topics below:

  1. Overview of the master’s-prepared nurse’s career
  2. Reason for seeking graduate education
  3. Description of present position and role
  4. Usefulness of graduate education for present role
  5. Pearls of wisdom he/she is willing to share

In 750-1,000 words, write the interview in a narrative format. Use the following guidelines:

  1. Within the paper’s introduction, explain your interview selection.
  2. Do not identify the individual by name.
  3. Use centered headings to separate parts of the interview.
  4. In the conclusion, identify one or more competencies from the interview that are consistent with GCU program competencies and/or AACN education essentials. In addition, provide a statement that reflects what you gained from the interview.

Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a grading rubric. Instructors will be using the rubric to grade the assignment; therefore, students should review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the assignment criteria and expectations for successful completion of the assignment.

You are required to submit this assignment to Turnitin. Refer to the directions in the Student Success Center. Only Word documents can be submitted to Turnitin.

Learning Theories in Nursing

Introduction

Theory is the most powerful tool that you have to understand your patients and their condition. It can also be a powerful tool for nurses to diagnose and treat problems, or even just for understanding how to approach a patient’s care. In this post we’ll discuss some of the basic theories in nursing practice. We’ll talk about what they are, when they were developed, how they are used today and how clinicians apply them on the job every day.

Theoretical Framework

Theoretical frameworks are the foundation of nursing theory. They help you understand how people learn and respond to situations, which can be applied to your practice as a nurse.

Theory of human relationships (TR) is a framework that explains how we relate to each other in healthy and unhealthy ways. According to TR, we form relationships based on our understanding of who we are—what makes us different from others—and what makes them similar—what makes them the same. When these differences or similarities are threatened by an event such as illness or injury, they become uncomfortable or stressful for everyone involved; this can lead people into unhealthy behaviors that may harm themselves or others around them (i.e., self-medication).

Cognitive dissonance theory states that humans have difficulty accepting new information if it contradicts their beliefs about themselves or others; this leads us either toward confirmation bias (accepting only those ideas that support our existing ones) or disconfirmation bias (rejecting anything new). For example: A patient tells me he doesn’t like swallowing pills because they make him sick; however when asked why he doesn’t want his grandmother taking care of him after surgery because she’s old enough? He responds “She’ll get sadder.” This illustrates cognitive dissonance where there appears not only confusion but also conflict between two opposing thoughts—the first being “I don’t want my grandmother taking care” followed by another thought (“But I do!”).”

Knowledge Integration Theory

Knowledge Integration Theory (KIT) is a theory developed by Carol Watson. It describes how nurses integrate new knowledge into their existing knowledge base, which can be used to improve patient care and clinical practice.

In KIT, the nurse’s role is based on the idea that the nurse must understand how each patient’s condition affects his or her body system(s). The nurse also needs to be knowledgeable about current research findings in order for him/her to make appropriate decisions about treatment options for each individual patient.

Theory of Knowledge Integration Theory explains why nurses are able to provide high quality care despite limited resources available in many countries around the world: because they have access to vast amounts of information about different health conditions through print media advertising campaigns as well as electronic sources like websites dedicated only towards providing consumers guidance on what actions should take place next if something goes wrong during their visit at any given institution.”

Cognitive Dissonance Theory

Cognitive Dissonance Theory (CDIT) is a social psychological theory about how people make decisions and behave in response to conflicting information.

The theory of cognitive dissonance states that people try to reduce the tension created by this conflict through some form of action or behavior. This can be seen as self-justification, which refers to justifying an individual’s behavior by denying its inconsistency with one’s values, goals and beliefs.

Other effects include:

  • Theory of Self-Perception: People who are aware that they have done something wrong will tend to minimize their actions or minimize their feelings associated with those actions; thus, reducing the effects on how others perceive them. For example, when someone has been caught stealing money from work (which violates an employee code), he/she may try not only justify his/her actions but also convince himself/herself that he/she did nothing wrong because he believed it was okay at first before realizing later on after all wasn’t so cool anymore since others found out about what happened earlier than expected!

Theory of Human Relationships

The Theory of Human Relationships (THR) is a theory that describes how people interact with each other. The THR focuses on what makes us who we are and how we interact with one another within a given context. It’s not just about understanding human nature or how we should behave; it also addresses some of the most common challenges faced by nurses and healthcare professionals today.

The THR has three major components: (1) a model for understanding human relationships, (2) methods for developing effective communication skills, and (3) techniques for building rapport with patients so they feel comfortable sharing their needs during treatment sessions.

Takeaway:

The takeaway should be a summary of the article. It should be in a format that is easy to remember and understand, as well as easy for other people to read.

The takeaway should also include some key points from the article that you can use when talking about it with patients, family members, coworkers or other people who have an interest in health care.

Conclusion

I hope this post has helped you learn more about the theoretical frameworks that are used in nursing. It can be a challenge to remember all of these theories at once, so I recommend using them as a reference throughout your education and career.
